Two of my relatives from malaysia flew in today. So, I brought them to Orchard Ion to shop for a while in the afternoon. Apparently, as I was shopping around, I was pleasantly surprised to see that most of the branded shops (e.g. topman, river island, uniqlo) were all geared towards the winter season. I went into topman hoping to try out a pair of shorts but amazingly there was not even one pair that could be found. Most of the stuff were sweaters and jackets.
Anyway, the afternoon passed fairly quickly and soon my family and my two relatives went out for dinner. At first, we talked about fairly mundane stuff. But soon enough, my aunt made a comment about how Singapore was so safe compared to Malaysia. She then told us why.
Apparently, back in Alor Star, Kedah where my aunt stays, not too long ago there was a shooting which occurred just across her place (Taman Golf). According to my aunt, the gun man waited for the gate to open before the car drove out. Just as the car drove out, the gun man drove his car to block the car from driving out. Then, he came out with his gun, went to the driver's side and shot three shots point blank into the driver's head before he sped off. The victim's daughter who was at the scene saw the entire scenario play right through her eyes. As news got out from the shooting, police blockaded the highways. But 30 minutes later, they found the gun man's car already burned - the gun man was nowhere to be found.
The gun man was a professional hired to purposely kill the victim. In addition, within five hours later, the victim's brother also got gunned down in KL. Truth is, the victim and his brother were in a joint venture established to cheat people's money. So I'm guessing someone must have lost a whole stash of cash somewhere, got angry and decided to take revenge. And what's more shocking is that the victim is my uncle's former classmate.
So to all my malaysian friends, you know how dangerous your country is. Take good care of yourselves these festive season. I want to see you all in one piece next year or sooner if we meet up soon. Take care.
